Dr Helen Parr MBChB, FRCGP, DFFP, PGCert
Partner / General Practitioner
Dr Helen Parr joined the practice in 2009 as a GP Trainee, becoming a salaried GP in 2010 before progressing to Partner in 2012. She graduated from the University of Sheffield Medical School in 2001 and has been a GP Trainer since 2012, supporting and mentoring the next generation of family doctors. Helen has a particular interest in women’s health and provides contraceptive services, including the fitting of coils and implants. She is also a GP with an Extended Role (GPwER) in Community Gynaecology and has held clinical leadership positions during her career.Alongside her clinical work, Helen is Research Lead for Garswood Surgery and North PCN Research, helping to bring new research opportunities and innovations into primary care. She is also a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) Fellowship Committee. Outside of work, Helen enjoys running, going to the gym, hiking, wild swimming and exploring new places. She also loves spending time with her family and dog.
Dr Anna Newton MBChB, MRCGP, PGCert
Dr Anna Newton qualified from the University of Leeds in 2009 with an MBChB degree. She joined the practice in 2013 as a GP trainee and, following completion of her training, returned to the practice as a salaried GP in 2015 before becoming a Partner in 2017. Dr Newton completed a Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) at Edge Hill University and became a GP Trainer in 2018, supporting and mentoring the next generation of GPs. She has a particular interest in musculoskeletal medicine and runs joint injection clinics within the practice. Alongside her clinical work, Anna has held a number of local clinical leadership roles and is passionate about improving patient care and supporting the development of primary care services. She enjoys the variety of general practice and values building long-term relationships with patients and their families. Outside of work, Anna enjoys spending time with her family at their caravan, where they make the most of the outdoors with walks along the beach and exploring the surrounding moorland.

What are resident doctors?
Resident doctors are qualified doctors in clinical training. Where do patients see a resident doctor? In a hospital or GP practice. What is their level of training? They have completed a medical degree and foundation training and have anywhere up to eight years’ experience working as a hospital doctor, depending on their specialty, or up to three years in general practice. All resident doctors work under the supervisor of a senior doctor. Common titles for resident doctors: FY1 – foundation year one resident doctor FY2 – foundation year two resident doctor ST – specialty trainee in a hospital specialty SpR – specialty registrar in a hospital specialty GPST – specialty registrar in general practice
